On May 7th of 2022, Castleton had a rally to express the town’s desire to regain access, across the tracks, to its shoreline park. The rally had representatives from nearly all levels of government: Castleton Mayor Joe Keegan, Town Supervisor Chuck Peter, State Senator Daphne Jordan, and Congressman Paul Tonko. Castleton has subsequently met with Assemblyman Jake Ashby and with Steve Mann from Chuck Schumer’s office. We have also met with Senator Gillibrand’s and Representative Delgado’s staffs. All are in support of the goal to get safe at-grade access to the waterfront. Jeff Anzevino from Scenic Hudson and Jen Benson from Riverkeeper were also at the rally. They didn’t speak but helped out at Riverkeeper Sweep, which preceded the rally, and at the rally. It’s worth noting that these representatives are from both sides of the aisle and seeing everyone speaking with one voice is really powerful.
The rally got coverage in the Times Union and on Spectrum News. Castleton also has a Route to the River website, www.routetotheriver.org, and a Facebook page, www.Facebook.org/CastletonRiverAccess.
Castleton is BUSY and it’s not slowing down!
